Taco in a Bag Anyone?
I am getting a daily reminder of why I am not in the business of providing food for the masses this week. We have a club time at CCCMS now, so I thought, "Why not start an FCCLA chapter?" Since I gave up my club time of SSR (Sustained Silent Reading) where the kids and I brought a book and read (I know, what was I thinking), we are now planning money making activities, t-shirts, community service, etc. Our local fall festival, Piotique, is on Saturday and the chamber of commerce guy says no one is selling tacos in a bag. My group was all over that! There is only one tiny little problem. They are also in band, drill team, etc. so it has been interesting scheduling their times to work. They are enthusiastic, just have to be at Medicalodge from 9-10 for dress rehearsal, then at noon the performance on the courthouse square, then in the parade at 2pm. Last weekend I browned 40 pounds of hamburger. I have no idea how many to anticpate selling. So if you are in CC, come on over and support our group because anything you eat I don't have to carry back out.
On another note, Braden will be at Grandma and Grandpa's house on Friday. His mom is getting a haircut at noon and her hair dresser is having an open house later in the day. Aunt Abby is making the trip with her. I will need to zip out of school to get my holding time in!

Random Dozen

1. Do you do garage sales? If so, tell me about one great find. If not, tell me why not.
I do garage sales about once every five years, then I remember why I don't do garage sales and swear off them again for five years. It is just other people's junk, and I have junk of my own.
2. Name the last thing you fixed.
The last thing I fixed was pillows for Blake and Tamara. They had splits in the seams, so I sewed them back up with a needle and thread. I am their go-to girl for sewing.
3. Name your A) Favorite item of makeup OR B) Favorite tool
B - Favorite tool is my tiny Swiss army knife. Kyle's dad gave me my first one many years ago, especially since he has been gone since 1985. I really like the little tweezers.
4. Which room in your home needs organizing more than any other?
I am pretty organized, but I have noticed the storm shelter is getting rather crowded with this and that. I also put all the kids old toys under the fireplace, so I will need to get those out before you know it.
5. Which room could use re-decorating?
I would like to get rid of the popcorn ceilings in my house. But I don't want to deal with the mess.
6. Share something unique about your town.
We have an old fashioned bakery that sells the most amazing pastry treats - Tasty Pastry - isn't that a catchy name!
7. If you could send a one-sentence message to your great-grandchild, what would it be?
Your dad is asking for me all the time right now :)
8. Do you Facebook?
Yes, and I really like it. I can keep up with cousins and friends from the past. Also, I can see pictures people post which is fun.
9. Describe your favorite shoes.
I have worn these black Reebok flip flops for years. I tried to find them on the internet so I could buy them up like Bill Snyder buys up the old white tennis shoes.
10. Do you listen to more talk radio or more music radio? What kind of station is it?
I listen to KCLY 100.9 on the dial for my music. Unfortunately, KFRM doesn't come in in Clay Center.
11. How far would you travel for a really good (favorite) meal?
It wouldn't be about the food because I don't care about that as much, but if we were with good friends, I would travel to be with them.
12. If you were totally honest with yourself (and us) what should you probably be doing right now instead of blogging?
Driving home. I came to Manhattan after school to keep Braden while Tamara went to class, and she is back, a friend of her's is over and holding Braden, but I am busy blogging here at Blake's.

Lake Fun
We had a family day at Tuttle on Sunday. By the time we counted the number of people along, we realized the boat wasn't going to be enough, especially since there are no beaches at Tuttle. So we rented a pontoon with a shade and then had plenty of room for people to lounge and take turns skiing.
It was hard to get actual skiing pictures from the pontoon, but here are Blake and Abby after they went together. Blake was in the back, so he could lift his pull rope for Abby to duck under. They only had one big crash.
Braden and Tamara hung out on the pontoon. He slept all afternoon and we could move him around to keep him in the shade. The temperature wasn't too bad and we found a fairly secluded spot right below the dam where we had a nice breeze, but it didn't rock the boat.
I don't know if this is Abby or Lori. Jenna is in the boat with the flag.
On our way back in. I didn't get any pictures of Paige and Russ or my sister, Darci, but they were along too. We had a little picnic lunch on the pontoon and a lot of fun.

Fun Times
I have had some people indicate they wanted more pictures of Braden, and I don't want to be a grandma that bores you with pictures, so if you don't want to look, stop now. It's all about him.
The proud parents. They look pretty good on very little sleep.
The proud grandparents. They needed their sleep the night before in order to look really good for the picture.
Uncle Russ and Aunt Paige taking their turn.
Aunt Abby takes over. She even got to watch him the end of last week! Grandma is jealous!
Kent, my brother, and his family were in Manhattan to drop Brian off at KSU. Brian and Braden came to Manhattan on the same day.
The Bauer boys three generations pose for a photo.
His going home outfit on Saturday. As you can see, he is already sporting the KSU gear.
This Saturday. He was pretty sleepy in the afternoon, but Tamara and Blake say he is wide awake in the middle of the night. I'm pretty sure he is going to be a blond.
My parents, Blake, Braden, and me. Braden was happy to get to meet his great-grandparents.
That's enough for the first week. They just change so quickly in the first year. I love to hold newborns with their little legs curled up and they snuggle in. We are blessed that he is a healthy boy with great parents.

Random Dozen

1. What is your favorite Mexican dish?
Taco salad. I especially like the ones made in the food booth at the Clay County Fair.
2. When you were a kid, did you get started on your homework right away after school, or did you procrastinate?
My middle name was procrastinate until I got to be older, way older. It was more of a problem with projects or papers than actual book studying.
3. What is your favorite store for home furnishings?
Where does this lady live who writes these questions? In Clay Center we have one choice, Orr's Furniture City, and they are going out of business for the umpteeth time. But I would have to say I have bought more there than anywhere else.
4. When you were young, did you like school lunches?
I never really thought about liking them or not. Taking a lunch didn't seem to be an option and I don't remember anyone in my class bringing their lunch. The meal I liked least was pinwheels which were meat rolled up in bread like a cinnamon roll. I don't know why I didn't like them. We did have more homemade items and variety than I see at school now.
5. Is religion a crutch?
I liked Mrs.'s E's answer from Easy Street. I don't like it when people don't think for themselves and use religion to hide behind. But I have also seen people who have no belief, and I feel sorry for them. A lady on my blog list has suddenly become aethist and she sure doesn't seem very happy to me. (By the way, she doesn't know me so don't be worried she is reading my blog.)
6. In your region, what is the "big" (most popular in the community or state) high school sport?
Wrestling is big in Clay Center. For girls, the softball program has been very successful and is well known throughout the state.
7. Do you consider yourself rich?
According to whose standard? I have everything I need and great family and friends. I am rich.
8. Which of these would you have the best chance for success in administering:
A) CPR
B) Heimlich Maneuver
C) Changing a flat tire
I am going to chose B but I think I could also do C. I may have to do the Heimlich on a kid trying to sneak gum at the middle school someday. As far as CPR, I feel more confident since they took away the part where you breathe into someone else's mouth. All you have to do is pump on their chest, but I am afraid I would get tired, then they would die, and I would feel bad.
9. Which dance would you prefer to learn & why:
A) Salsa
B) Hip Hop
C) Waltz
D) Swing
D - I am not much of a dancer at any rate.
10. What's the worst news you've ever delivered to someone?
I had to tell Kyle his dad died. It was expected and an end to his suffering, but still hard. He had gone to Oklahoma to get some cattle that day because his dad had wanted him to, and he really had already figured it out by the light being on over at his mom's.
11. Name something you learned in college that had nothing to do with classes or academics.
It is really humid in eastern Kansas as opposed to western Kansas.
12. New variation on an old question: If there's a song in your head that just won't get out, what is your favorite (or most repeated) line in that song?
I can't just manufacture a song in my head, and it never is the same song. I find myself with church hymns or praise songs in my head more often than other songs.

Random Dozen
I was counting on my next post being pictures of the new baby, but he is taking his own sweet time arriving. So I decided to do the Random Dozen and maybe the next post will be about a new baby.

1. What is your favorite fair/carnival food?
I like cotton candy but it is a sticky mess and I hate sticky messes. Maybe snowcones? At the state fair, I always get a box of salt water taffy.
2. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
That is a tough one because I am such a tosser. I need to go through all my folders at school and get rid of material I haven't used for several years and also activity sheets that went with my old text books.
3. What is your favorite gift to receive?
I like to receive jewelry and flowers. I know it is corny, but the best gift is just being together.
4. When was the last time you tried something new?
I had a #7 at El Puerto's instead of a #12 yesterday.
5. What is your favorite and least favorite book genre?
Least favorite would probably by science fiction. Favorite is harder because I like a variety including mystery, romance, Christian fiction, and occasionally an autobiography.
6.Silver or Gold?
I think gold probably looks better with my skin tone, but I like silver too. It is funny how jewelry color goes in and out of fashion.
7. What makes you sigh?
Sticky messes. A slower metabolism.
8. If you didn't know how old you are, how old would you claim you are?
Definitely 40 but that doesn't explain the 28 year old son.
9. Would you break a law to save a loved one? To protect a loved one?
Yes. Maybe.
10. If you had to teach something, what would it be?
I am going to say middle school FACS. Oh, wait a minute, that is what I do.
11. You're having lunch with 3 people whom you respect and admire. They begin to criticize a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. What do you do?
This question probably isn't going to happen in a town our size, but I would defend my friend. Hopefully steering the conversation would take care of it.
12. Which of the 5 Love Languages is your prominent means of experiencing love?
Quality Time
Physical Touch
Acts of Service
Gifts
Words of Affirmation
I have read the book this question came from, and took the quiz again, and still came out with quality time followed by words of affirmation. I think that is common for women according to the book. If you haven't taken the quiz, you can on the 2nd Cup of Coffee blog found in my blog list. It asked for your name, but you can skip that part.
